In October 2022, it was revealed that Cavill would be departing from the fantasy series and that Liam Hemsworth would be replacing him in the role going forward.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” stated Cavill. “The amazing Mr. Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of the White Wolf in my place.”
He also added “Similar to the greatest literary characters, I pass the torch to Liam with admiration for the time I spent being Geralt and excitement for Liam’s interpretation of this most intriguing and complex of men. Liam, good sir, enjoy exploring and discovering what you can find; this character has such amazing depth to him.”
Less than a week had passed since Cavill announced that he would no longer be playing Geralt of Rivia.
The details of his return to the DC Extended Universe are probably never going to be revealed, but it’s possible that the pressures of playing Superman got in the way of his role as the lead in The Witcher, which films eight episodes a season in various parts of Europe.

“It was a surprise to us all, and it was quite a few months after wrapping, but now we are all celebrating the work that we have all put in together for season 3 and shedding light on that hard work and trying to focus on that and move forward with that and focus on what’s ahead, and I think it will be exciting to see Liam’s interpretation.”
In an interview with Games Radar, Lauren added her two cents to the discussion “There are simply too many stories left to tell…We would be completely deviating from the books if we replaced Geralt with another Witcher, and I don’t think anyone wanted that either.
Regarding her thoughts on Liam starting a new chapter for The Witcher, she exclaimed, “He has big shoes to fill, but he also has a lot of energy and excitement for it.” This is a whole new chapter in our story. And there are a lot of emotions at play. Ultimately, though, we are passionate about what we do. Consequently, we will continue.
