Why Did Dahmer Get Kicked Out of the Army? What Were the Reasons?

Why did Dahmer get kicked out of the Army? The re-emergence of Jeffrey Dahmer’s heinous crimes, as depicted in the Netflix series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, has sparked renewed interest. Is it possible that these actions contributed to his dismissal from the military?

Why Did Dahmer Get Kicked Out of the Army?

The portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer’s time in the army in the Netflix series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” is quite accurate. It even includes a scene where Dahmer drugs and sexually assaults one of his army colleagues, which actually happened.

Although Dahmer was officially discharged from the army due to problems with alcohol, there were reports that he sexually abused two men named Billy Capshaw and Preston Davis.

Preston, who was Dahmer’s medic partner in Germany, remembered that Dahmer was a racist person and that he drugged and raped him during a three-day mission in Belgium.

Billy Capshaw, who was Dahmer’s roommate, said that Dahmer assaulted him “eight to 10 times” by tying him to the bunk with a motor pool rope and even beating him with an iron bar from the bed.

He tried to report the abuse to the authorities, but they didn’t take his claims seriously. The Netflix series “Dahmer – Monster:

The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” doesn’t go into these details about Dahmer’s military experience, but it does show why he joined the military and why he was eventually discharged.

Why Did Jeffrey Dahmer Enlist in the U.S. Army?

In the Netflix series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” it shows that Dahmer’s father, Lionel, was worried about his son’s lack of ambition and direction, so he enrolled him at Ohio State University.

This happened shortly after Jeffrey Dahmer had killed his first victim, Steven Hicks. However, going to university didn’t really change anything for Dahmer because he hardly went to classes and instead spent most of his time drinking alone.

Although the Netflix series suggests that Dahmer was expelled from Ohio State University, he actually dropped out after just one quarter due to his issues with alcohol and his poor academic performance, according to information from The Ohio State University.

This was a big disappointment for his father, Lionel, who wrote about it in his book called “A Father’s Story.” Lionel was at a loss and decided to urge his son to join the military. Jeffrey agreed and enlisted in the U.S. Army.

How Long Was Jeffrey Dahmer Sentenced to Prison?

Even though Jeffrey Dahmer is believed to have murdered 17 people, his trial in 1992 ended with him pleading guilty to 15 counts of murder in Wisconsin and one murder in Ohio.

As a result, he was given 16 life sentences for his horrifying crimes, which meant he would spend at least 957 years in prison based on contemporary sentencing guidelines. He was not eligible for parole.

However, Dahmer’s time behind bars was tragically short-lived. After serving only three years and four months in prison, he was beaten to death by Christopher Scarver in November 1994.

Final Thoughts

Scarver, another inmate at Wisconsin’s Columbia Correctional Institution, killed the 34-year-old Dahmer. While Dahmer’s crimes earned him an incredibly long prison sentence, it was not the longest ever given in the United States.

The record for the most life sentences goes to Terry Nichols, the perpetrator of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, who received 161 life sentences.
