Why did Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris break up? Fans of Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris were waiting eagerly for the famous couple to make beautiful music together when they began dating in 2015.
In their one-year romance, the singer-songwriter and Scottish DJ only collaborated once as co-writers on Rihanna’s track “This Is What You Came For.”
It’s too bad that they’ve broken up. After parting ways with Swift, Harris in 2018 re-sparked his relationship with ex-girlfriend Aarika Wolf until the couple broke up again in 2022.
He then moved on to TV and radio presenter Vick Hope whom he has been engaged to since 2022, but what really caused this separation? Read through to find out.
Why Did Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris Break Up?
A friend of Swift told PEOPLE the relationship ended because Harris was “intimidated” by her success.
“[Harris] said on multiple occasions that he was intimidated by Taylor, which is why he would not attend any events where she was being honored, or any award shows unless he was nominated,” the friend explained.
A source says that the breakup “wasn’t a shock” for Swift, because the couple’s issues have been ongoing — and much of it comes down to incompatible lifestyles. “They come from very different worlds,” says the source close to Harris, whom insiders confirm ultimately pulled the plug on the relationship. “Taylor is used to being treated a certain way.”
The same source went on to say that the age difference between the couple is another bone of contention, as Harris is five years younger than Swift. “Taylor somewhat lacks real-life experience,” the source concluded. “They will not be getting back together.”
How Did Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris Meet?
Harris and Swift first met in backstage of Elle Style Awards in February 2015 when they were both introduced by their mutual friend, Ellie Goulding.
And thank the internet, a fan just so happened to be capturing the moment it took place and uploaded it onto Instagram.
The pic depicted Goulding and Swift converging on Harris who was having a conversation with Sam Smith. “Calvin’s a really great mate and he’s so fantastic and Taylor is such a cool person who I love,” Goulding reportedly said (via The Mirror) of the match-making. “I thought, ‘They’re both really awesome and both really tall, they’ll be brilliant together.’
Calvin Harris has some regrets when it comes to how he handled his breakup with Taylor Swift.
The 32-year-old Scottish DJ gets candid on the aftermath of his June split from Swift in a new interview with British GQ. Harris covers the magazine’s Men of the Year issue, taking home Patron Tequila’s Solo Artist of the Year award.
